My own lessons (2007)

I received this song in a text message the other day and kept it because it constantly reminded me of the changes in my life that have taken place and my actual heart towards the person in my life who will never let me down, Jesus. I decided to delve into this song a little more deeply, so I'm going to break each verse down a little bit to more personalize it for myself, and you, whomever you may be.

Enjoy? =]

Desperate for changing
Starving for truth
Closer where I Started
Chasing after you

I believe that this verse is the cry of this generation. With media and pop culture filling our heads with junk everyday it's hard not to get caught up in finding something "real" whether that be drugs, a relationship, or something more
physical. Why is it that more often than not we try every outlet other than God until we've hit rock bottom?

I'm falling even more in love with you
Letting go of all I've held onto
I'm standing here until you make me move
I'm hanging by a moment here with you

What is love? A romantic comedy where everyone wins? A sweet song, or a kiss from a significant other? I think we have killed "love" with our own wimpy definitions. [This coming from a professed sappy person] How can we use the same "love" for God that we use for tacos, or a shirt? Until we really dig into God's word and see what His definition of love is, we can't understand what it means to really "fall" for Him. Until we know what His love means, we are physically and emotionally incapable of standing still. When we experience the love of Christ, we understand that there is nothing more appetizing on this earth than to hang by a moment, waiting for his next word, asking him to breathe His life into our own existence.

Forgetting all I'm lacking
Completely incomplete
I'll take your invitation
You take all of me

Sometimes when life hands me a situation [lemon], instead of immediately taking it to god [lemonade] I try to turn my situation into something entirely crazy all in the name of fixing a problem myself.

A lot of times I take lemons, and try to turn them into orangeade or some other concoction. I justify my problems and excuse them instead of fixing them. A lot of people do. We cover up open wounds with a bright and shiny hello kitty band-aid instead of giving it a chance to heal naturally, with God.

This verse hits home with me, because it took me the longest to learn in my own life. I had to basically go face down on the floor and admit to God and myself that I lacked what it took to save myself from my worst enemy [myself]. Our imperfections make us who we are, we are weak by nature and were created that way so that we would depend on God, our maker.

I'm living for the only thing I know
I'm running and not quite sure where to go
I don't know what I'm diving into
Just hanging by a moment here with you

There's nothing else to lose
Nothing left to find
There's nothing in the world
That could change my mind
There is nothing else
There is nothing else...

So we're called to step boldly, and blindly into God's arms. To dance the most intricate of waltzes with our maestro. I don't know much, but I know that God's will is better than any will that I've had for myself so far. According to my track record, if God hadn't saved me from myself, I'd be set for a life of utter misery.

So I'm taking leaps of faith daily, maybe not huge things in anyone else's mind, but we have to crawl before we walk. This saying is misleading though, because one doesn't crawl in place, or walk. We are constantly moving forward. I would rather crawl and take baby steps along God's path for me, than spend and eternity walking in place on my own will and selfish desires.

God, I'm not sure what you have in store for me right now, but I know I'm where I'm supposed to be, and I'm involved with who I need to be involved with for a specific purpose. I lay my decisions in the palm of your ever loving hand and I pray that you'll continue to provide a hedge of protection over my loved ones and all of their families.

In your name, I pray. Amen.
