American's going vegetarian? Why not. (2010)

Thomas Friedman, liberal columnist for the New York Times, wrote a sassy number comparing Chinese Autocracy to American Democracy.http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/22/opinion/22friedman.html.  In his foreign policy level analysis, Friedman spotlights China’s “impressive growth engine” in order to “light a spark under America,” as stated in the article. So, let’s look at his idea realistically.

While Americans in office do tend to mutually disagree on steps being taken to aid global warming, the health care bill, and the ending of the war on terror, we have one thing that China is seemingly lacking; something that Friedman fails to acknowledge:  freedom of speech, press, things like the Internet (his job security).

“The Chinese system is autocratic, which requires liberty. Yet China also has regular rotations of power at the top and a strong record of promoting on merit,” as stated in the article. All of our money is spread out between other countries, we are in a huge deficit, we can’t handle switching government officials as often as China, that would make us a weaker link.

“(America’s corrupted political class is) more interested in defeating each other than saving the country,” as stated in the article.

We need to focus on getting other countries stabilized before we think about changing everything up. If politicians are looking for anything, it’s stability, which is exactly what Americans need.

Ramblings (2010)

For as long as you can remember, you have been a pleaser, depending on others to give you an identity. You need not look at that only in a negative way. You wanted to give your heart to others, and you did so quickly and easily. But now you are being asked to let go of all these self-made props and trust that God is enough for you. You must stop being a pleaser and reclaim your identity as a free self.

Every time there are losses there are choices to be made. You choose to live your losses as passages to anger, blame, hatred, depression and resentment, or you choose to let these losses be passages to something new, something wider, and deeper.

When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advise, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand.

Your body needs to be held and to hold, to be touched and to touch. None of these needs is to be despised, denied, or repressed. But you have to keep searching for your body's deeper need, the need for genuine love. Every time you are able to go beyond the body's superficial desires for love, you are bringing your body home and moving toward integration and unity.

When we become aware that we do not have to escape our pains, but that we can mobilize them into a common search for life, those very pains are transformed from expressions of despair into signs of hope.

Somewhere we know that without silence words lose their meaning, that without listening, speaking no longer heals, that without distance, closeness cannot cure.

Background on lily (2010)

I have a tattoo on my right foot that says "Lily."
People always ask me the same questions.

Is that is your favorite flower?
Is that the name of someone close to you?
Is there some other reason you chose it?

The answer to all of these questions, is yes. The most common question I get has a more complicated answer.

What does it mean?

I got this when I was 19, I had been researching the meanings behind keywords in the Bible, and I decided to look up Lily, because it's my favorite flower. I looked up Greek/Hebrew translators, as well as other more common translations (Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian) to see what the history of the name Lily stemmed from.

The lily is an extremely versatile flower, coming in many colors and sizes.

-Purity-
-Modesty-
-Virginity-
-Majesty-
-Flame-
-"It's heavenly to be with you."-
-Return of happiness-
-Purity of heart-
-I burn for you.-
-Sweetness-
-Tears of the Virgin Mary-
-"You've made my life complete."-
-"I'm walking on air."-
-Humility-
-Happiness-
-"Love's good."-
-Fortune-
-Remembrance-
-Transitioning-

Juno, the queen of the gods in Roman mythology, is linked to the lily. The story follows that while nursing her son Hercules, some excess milk fell from the sky creating the group of stars we call the Milky Way, and lilies were created from what milk fell to the earth.

Old wives tales suggest telling the sex of an unborn child by using a rose and a lily. All one need do is approach an expectant mother with alily in one hand and a rose in the other. If the mother chooses the rose, it will be a girl. If she picks the lily, it will be a boy.

The legend of the lily is that it sprang from Eve's tears when she was kicked out of the Garden of Eden. It is also believed that this flower protects gardens from evil spirits.

Lily is also known as the symbol of the Virgin Mary.
The stem of the lily symbolizes Mary's religiously faithful mind
Lily petals represent her Mary's purity and virginity
The scent of the flower represents Mary's divinity
The leaves leaves signify her humility

In symbolic dreams, lily meaning deals with the sanctity of the heart, elegance and a need for clarity or cleansing. If the dreamer is looking at a lily it is a message of encouragement & chance of success in an endeavor looks very good. If one is dreaming of holding a lily, it indicates he/she is highly respected by others. If the dreamer is throwing or tossing a lily aside, it is a message that he/she has been abusing his/her power.

Dreaming of lilies could mean the time is right to act upon a long-thought upon plan. Further, it indicates that we are coming into a fuller integration of ourselves and developing personal balance. It is also a sign that we are seeking rest, peace and tranquility. In esoteric and mystery teachings, lily meaning s include:

-Development-
-Growth-
-Progress-
-Freedom-
-Purity-

Summer Storm (2010)

I'll sit in bed on a Saturday night.
I'll sit and write and write;
Of warm summer days, muggy nights.
Sparse conversations lasting til twilight.

I'll sit here and ponder as I hear rain.
I'll sit here and think, wrack my brain.
How did one person cause all your pain?
The choice: would I change my past, or do it again?

I'll lay down and close my eyes.
The rain drowns out my heart's cries.
For inside the hurting girl lies;
A heart bandaged from years of goodbyes.

Grapes and fries (2010)

The pictures fall to the floor.

(Heaven is a place where they call my
name)

Two empty beds, a box of toys gather dust.

(Says "please come play with me for awhile")

Voicemails, visitors, the days are a haze.

(God, I know, it's all of this and so much more).

Your lunch is cold, the milk is going to ruin.

(But God, you know this is what I'm aching for).

I wake up, rush to your room, and relive it all over again.

(God, you know, I just can't see beyond the door),

It's always darkest before the dawn.

(But in my minds eye I can see a place),

With your hands on my shoulder I'll visit your caskets.

(Where your glory fills every empty space).

I know that although I couldn't save you, you are safe somehow.

(There's no more goodbye, no more not enough).

You were so pure God couldn't let you go.

(No more enemy, no more).

A doll's story (2010)

It's like painting without a canvas.
It's like singing with strep throat.
It's like cooking with no food.

Something is missing,
There are pieces broken.
We can get out the glue.
We can get out the tape.
But the picture's gonna change.

Now there's a broken piece in my heart.
I didn't want to break; you forced my hand.
Now instead of da Vinci I look like Picasso.
My porcelain body is chipped, fragmented.
Cast away with the your next toy donation.

Because there will always be another doll.
